The Georgia Fire Academy is partnering with the 2022 Georgia Fire Service Conference to offer the following Hands-on-Training (HOT) courses Saturday, October 1st. These courses are free of charge and do not require a conference registration to attend. Please see below course descriptions and links to register. Please share with your members.   


 

Swift Water Tactics - Swift Water Tactics is a hands-on-training class that covers rope skills, hydrology, and rescue techniques. Attendees will be presented an overview of swift water operations strategies and tactics.

 

Special Note: Students must provide PPE to participate: Water Helmet, Type V PFD with Knife, Water Gloves, Water Shoes, Water Clothes (bathing suit and rash guard at a minimum). A wet or dry suit is acceptable but not required.

 

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

 

Swift Water Tactics

 


Forcible Entry: The Basics of B&E - This hands-on-training class covers the different methods for the art of breaking and entering within the Fire Service. Attendees will receive a basic overview of the conventional methods of forcing doors and buildings using hand tools.

 

Special Note: Students must provide positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus and full structural firefighter protective clothing to include boots, coat, pants, gloves, helmet, and hood. All clothing and equipment must be in good condition and meet applicable NFPA standards. No shorts or sleeveless shirts may be worn. 

 

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00p.m.

 

Forcible Entry: The Basics of B&E

 


Volunteer Firefighter Survival Skills- Maze - This Course is designed to instruct the firefighter in the effective and safe methods of firefighter survival. Students will practice techniques for “MAYDAY” procedures, searching for an exit, negotiating wire entanglement, and restricted passages. The evolutions will take place in the Georgia Fire Academy Volunteer Initiative Program SCBA Confidence Trailer. Attendees will receive training to enhance their firefighter survival skills.

 

Special Note: Students must provide positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus and full structural firefighter protective clothing to include boots, coat, pants, gloves, helmet, and hood. All clothing and equipment must be in good condition and meet applicable NFPA standards. No shorts or sleeveless shirts may be worn. 

 

Time: There will be two, three-hour sessions.

8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Volunteer Passenger Vehicle Initial Fire Attack - This course is designed realistic training program to instruct the firefighter in the effective techniques for suppressing a passenger vehicle fires. Attendees will receive training to enhance their firefighting survival skills.

 

Special Note: Students must provide positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus and full structural firefighter protective clothing to include boots, coat, pants, gloves, helmet, and hood. All clothing and equipment must be in good condition and meet applicable NFPA standards. No shorts or sleeveless shirts may be worn.
