Fire Service Leaders,
In an effort to expand the Georgia Local Assistance State Team (L.A.S.T.) The Georgia Fire Academy will be hosting the National Fallen Firefighters Line of Duty Death Response: Local Assistance State Team (L.A.S.T.) training Course beginning August 1, 2022.
The Local Assistance State Teams are comprised of members from all areas of public safety, as well as families affected by line-of-duty deaths and volunteers from all lines of work. They are passionate about helping those who have suffered the loss of a family member or department member in the line of duty. The primary mission of LAST is to provide assistance and comfort to the family and the department after a line-of-duty death and to help with filing for federal, state and local benefits.
This program will introduce Fire Service organization leaders to the resources developed by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation that addresses readiness as it pertains to an organization’s response to Line of Duty Deaths (LODD). Topics discussed in this delivery will include familiarization with the Local Assistance State Team that assists in LODD response, LODD benefits, and different resources available to the family and the organization.
Attached is a brochure that provides further details about the L.A.S.T. program.
