GSFA Annual Awards Nominations Due July 15th

 

Since 1972, GSFA has recognized firefighters through its annual recognition program.  Award recipients will be recognized at the 2022 Georgia Fire Service Conference and the 2023 Firefighters Recognition Day. Recognition is given for the following categories:

 

  • Firefighter of the Year
  • Rookie of the Year
  • Training Officer of the Year
  • Company Officer of the Year
  • Educator of the Year
  • Life Saving Valor Award

Last Chance! Apply for a Travel Stipend for the Recruitment & Retention Experience

DripDrop and the NVFC Partner to Provide Dehydration Relief to Volunteer Firefighters

DripDrop and the NVFC have teamed up for the third year to provide dehydration relief to firefighters as they battle wildfire and other strenuous response situations. In 2022, DripDrop donated 400,000 servings of its oral rehydration solution to volunteer fire departments across the U.S. While the program is now closed, volunteer firefighters can still receive a 20 percent discount on orders using code NVFC20 at www.dripdrop.com. Josh Cellars Releases Limited-Edition Bottle of Wine to Support Volunteer Firefighter Initiatives

The Josh Cellars brand has partnered with the NVFC again in 2022 to produce a Reserve Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon. This limited-edition NVFC-branded bottle of wine is available for purchase through September 30. For every bottle sold, Josh Cellars will donate one dollar to the NVFC (up to $120,000) for initiatives that support volunteer firefighters. Your Fire Department Can Support the CDC’s COVID-19 Testing Program

In partnership with the CDC and Color Health, the NVFC is working to improve access to COVID-19 laboratory testing for at-risk and under-resourced communities. Fire departments who participate in this program will provide an important service to their communities, with very little effort required. Sites receive everything they need to run a successful testing operation and are supported by Color’s team of professionals at every step of the way. Read article.

 

Wildfires: Preparing Yourself, Your Department, and Your Community

The NVFC is hosting a live discussion on July 20 at 2pm ET to make sure firefighters are ready for the next wildfire. The conversation will focus on safety during wildfires along highways, how to better prepare communities before wildfire strikes, and health and safety considerations for emergency responders during wildfires. The discussion will be streamed to the NVFC’s Facebook page, or attend on Zoom.

Lessons Learned from the FirstNet® Health and Wellness Coalition

For public safety, few things are more important than the lives of first responders and the people they serve. However, the service responders provide to communities comes with personal sacrifice. FirstNet established the Health & Wellness Coalition to integrate responder, community, industry, and academic capabilities to support the holistic health, wellness, and readiness of America’s first responders. This article by Dr. Anna Fitch Courie explains more.
