New this year!  Please note that all events take place on Tuesday, February 6!  We encourage all fire departments to send a contingent of firefighters to these events!

REGISTRATION

All firefighters are invited to participate in Firefighters Recognition Day at the Georgia State Capitol.  There is no registration required and no cost to attend this event.  There is a $5 per person ticket cost for the Georgia Fire Service Legislative Appreciation Dinner and pre-registration is strongly encouraged.  State officials, legislators and their staff are asked RSVP and sign in at the dinner but their tickets are complimentary.   To register, click here.

12 p.m. –              Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation Luncheon
2 p.m.                   Georgia State Student Center

The Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation (GFBF) will be held at the Georgia State Student Center on Courtland Street. 2:30 p.m. –          Firefighters Recognition Day Ceremonies
3:45 p.m.             Swearing in of Local Fire Marshals (immediately following ceremony)

Firefighters Recognition Day is set by law as the first Tuesday in February and provides an opportunity to recognize and pay tribute to our firefighting community.  The ceremonies will officially be called to order at 2:30 p.m.  During the ceremonies Georgia state elected officials will acknowledge and applaud contributions made by all fire service personnel in Georgia and also recognize and present commendations to award recipients of the Georgia State Firefighters Association, Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs, and Georgia Fire Inspectors Association.  State Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens also will deputize local fire marshals during this time.                         

3:45 p.m. –          Firefighter Legislative Visits
4:45 p.m.             Firefighters are encouraged to visit with legislators and remind them to attend the legislative dinner during this time.      

5:00 p.m. –         Fire Service Legislative Appreciation Dinner
7:00 p.m.             Atlanta Freight Depot

Get ready for some of the best barbecue you have ever tasted, thanks to the expert cooks from the Vienna Fire Department.  This event is jointly sponsored by the Georgia State Firefighters Association, Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs and Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation and provides an opportunity to spend time with state leaders and legislators to network and discuss important fire service issues.

  • Make Your Time at the Capitol Count: Legislators need to hear from you regarding fire service related legislation.  Reach out to your legislator now and schedule time to visit with them while you are in Atlanta for Firefighter Recognition Day.  Remind them to RSVP to attend the Fire Service Legislative Appreciation Dinner by calling GSFA Business Manager Beth Brown at bbrown@gsffa.org or calling 770-914-7774.
