Message from GSFA President Regarding HB 216 Veto

Message from GSFA President Regarding HB 216 Veto

In case you have not heard, Governor Deal has vetoed HB 216, the firefighter cancer bill. This was not the results we were expecting and it is indeed a sad day for the Georgia Fire Service. However, this is not the end. As we are accustomed to doing, we will knock off the dust from the battle we have fought, regroup with a renewed spirit and keep fighting the fight for our firefighters.

Thanks to all of you who joined in the fight and I ask you to continue to keep this in the forefront of your thoughts. Keep being the professionals that you are in all of your actions and when asked about this issue keep making the Georgia Fire Service proud.

I want to thank Representative Micah Gravely and Senator John Albers for their tireless efforts in carrying the torch for us on this issue. Also thanks to Dennis Thayer for all he has done as well.

Remember, together we stand, divided we fall. Let’s keep our shoulder to the plow and keep pressing forward.  Take care and may God continue to bless the Georgia Firefighters.

Dean King
Fire Chief, Donalsonville Fire Rescue
President, Georgia State Firefighters Association
